Job Summary/Basic Function

Participates in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and other college facilities. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

•Associate’s Degree in wastewater technology or a related field.
•Minimum Level 3 Waste Water Operator License.
•One year experience in wastewater treatment operations or a related field.
•Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
•Background check required.
•Valid NM Drivers license.

•Ability to perform operations, maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment.
•Ability to perform WWTP inspections, permits, testing, reporting, and all operational requirements and responsibilities.
•Ability to provide records and maintain using records management principles.
•Ability to perform water sampling and testing procedures.
•Knowledge and ability to use computers and job-related software programs.
•Skill in the operation of assigned tools and equipment.
•Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
•Skill in oral and written communication.
•Ability to inspect plant operations to ensure compliance with regulations and procedures.
•Ability to maintain and repair plant equipment and facilities.
•Ability to collect and analyzes water samples.
•Ability to serve and work on other functions related to POMSS.

Physical Demands

•The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
•The work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, at a wastewater treatment plant, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals.
•Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
•Work requires on-call 24/7/365 for urgencies and other required work functions.

Job Duties

Responsibility/Duty

•Inspects WWTP and plant operations to ensure compliance with regulations and procedures.
•Maintains and repairs plant equipment, including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
•Pulls weeds and debris from ponds.
•Prepares required reports.
•Maintains supply inventory.
•Collects wastewater samples for laboratory analysis and code requirements.
•Maintains plant facilities; replaces light bulbs; repairs ceiling tiles.
•Performs related duties.
