Job Summary/Basic Function

Prepares and cooks a variety of food items. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Three (3) months professional (paid) cooking experience.
• Background check required if assigned to Kid’s Campus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Some culinary education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of safe food handling requirements.
• Knowledge of the operation of large kitchen equipment and other kitchen ware.
• Knowledge of cleaning procedures.
• Skill in knife handling.
• Skill in the cleaning of a kitchen.
• Ability to prepare a variety of food items.
• Ability to follow recipes and portion control as established.
• Ability to establish and maintain a variety of working relationships.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.

Physical Demands

• The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects.
• The work is typically performed in a kitchen.
• May be exposed to the risk of blood borne pathogens.

Job Duties

Responsibility/Duty

• Prepares regular food items to be served in the service line.
• Prepares food using fryer, grill, stove, or oven.
• Sets up station according to established guidelines; maintains orderly and clean food preparation area.
• Serves food to patrons.
• Assists in the cleaning, sanitation and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and storage areas.
• Assists in the preparation of food for special college functions.
• Maintains proper storage of all inventories to include dry, frozen, refrigerated and prepared foods.
• Assists in the front line during the breakfast, lunch, and dinner rush hours.
• Assists with food prep, catering setup and breakdown.
• May train and assist with the child care food preparation and distribution.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
